Caipirinha, Christ the Redeemer, Copacabana… all are synonymous with the Cidade Maravilhosa but only one has earnt a reputation as Brazil’s national cocktail. A refreshing blend of lime, sugar, ice and the all-important cachaça, it is the perfect antidote to a hot summer’s day in Rio de Janeiro. Also growing in popularity is the caipiroska, using vodka as its base spirit, however it still has some way to go to catch its cachaça-based cousin.
