There is an instant association between Russia and vodka, but however surprising it may be, this is not the drink of choice in St Petersburg. The craft trend has hit the Russian city in a big way over the last year or so, with beer bars and microbreweries all over town, and cocktail bars pushing the boundaries more than ever. Geography offers a menu of “aged cocktails”, while Apotheke has no menu at all so be prepared to tell the bartender what you like. Meanwhile at Tipplers, cocktails arrive in quirky glassware – with drinks being served in anything from Chinese tea cups to medicine bottles.
